Those words are often paired together... but should they be?  That they are often paired together should be your first clue.  Anytime you automatically put one word with another, such as "trials and tribulations" or "hustle and bustle," yeah... it's probably a cliché. 

One way to check something like that is by asking, "Why are these two words always together?  I mean, seriously, why can't I have a 'tribulation' without also having a 'trial'?"

Another way (assuming your computer will do it) is to put the cursor on both words (one at a time), right click, and in the drop down menu choose "Synonyms."  If the synonyms for both are the same (and they don't all have to be the same), then that phrase is most likely redundant.
