über:  (adv.)  a German word that really needs to be used more often; it means over the top, extremely good, and any such superlative that we already have in English, but we don’t have any words in English that have the cool dots over the u.  Like, dude, man, that cop was über-cool.  Remember, though, that uber just isn't quite as über unless you Insert those little dots.

ubiquitous:  (adj.)  found everywhere.  The graffiti was so ubiquitous in the city that nobody was surprised when it started appearing inside of the businesses.

ulster:  (noun)  a man's long, loose overcoat made of heavy material, typically with a belt in the back.  Aye, 'tis a wee bit nippy.  I'd best be wearin' me ulster to the pub.

ululate:  (verb)  to howl or wail as an expression of strong emotion, usually grief.  At the end of the semester, the sound of ululating students can be heard wafting from the dorms.

umami:  (noun)  a meaty or savory taste.  Your mommy made me some umami.

umbrage:  (noun)  offense, pique, indignation.  The constituents took umbrage over being called a bunch of in-bred hicks by the candidate.

umbrageous:  (adj.) (pronounced:  umm-bray-geous)  shaded; shadowed; taking offense easily.  She becomes so umbrageous whenever I purposely squeeze by her.  I wonder why?

unblowupableness:  (adj.)  that which limits the ability of something to be blown to bits.  Meth labs have a very low degree of unblowupableness.

unclubbable:  (adj.)  unsociable; avoiding social activity.  We've asked Larry and Abdul to be in our social club... because they're clubbable.  But you, Jorge, are unclubbable. 

unctuous:  (adj.)  someone who is excessively or ingratiatingly flattering.  Bob, the office brown-noser, was unctuously chatting with the boss… again.

underwhelmed:  (adj.)  The opposite of whelm.  When the politicians announced the tax breaks we all found it rather underwhelming.

undulatory:  (adj.)  (pronounced:  un-ja-la-torry)  of or relating to undulation; moving in, or resembling, a wave-like motion.  The undulatory sound of her voice soon had everybody nodding off.

unflappable:  (adj.)  calm, collected, unflustered, imperturbable.  We always thought Maggie was unflappable until she got flapped.

unpropitious:   (adj.)   inauspicious; unfavourable.  The couple had chosen an unpropitious moment to take their clothes off, not realizing that the Boy Scout troop was just over the hill on their annual hike.

unregenerate:  (adj.)  showing no repentance for the bad things one has done; obstinately bad or wrong.  Although now serving time in a federal prison, the senator remained unregenerate.

unrequited:  (adj.)  referring to something (especially love) that is not returned or rewarded.  The only thing worse than unrequited love is unrequited lust.

untenable:  (adj.)  flawed; indefensible; unsustainable.  Kevin found that trying to date two women at once quickly became an untenable situation, especially when they found out about each other and discovered they liked each other more than Kevin.

untoward:  (adj.)  troublesome; unfortunate; annoying.  The Committee finds your untoward attitude to be untenable.

urbane:  (adj.)  suave; polished; refined; cultured.  If you want to be urbane, you must first use it correctly in a sentence.

ursine: (adj.) of, related to, or resembling bears.  Dude!  Man!  I thought she was wearing an ursine coat, but she’s not wearing a coat!

usufruct:  (noun)  the right to use or enjoy something, so long as you don't tear it up or ruin it for others.  The parks exist usufruct for all.

utile:  (adj.)  (pronounce:  you-tull)  advantageous.  Running for your life just before the asteroid crashes into the planet might seem utile to some, and futile to others.
