Sidewalk cynics

set up their stands

and sneered at passersby,

who ignored them.

One by one

they all left their posts

to blend in with the crowd,

while all their pamphlets

were carried away

by the same trade winds

that had pushed the Mayflower,

full of pilgrims,

many years ago
