The Iselmatainian flag features the most sacred Gleaken Moth.  The image of the Gleaken Moth which appears on the flag was found at an archeological site in north central Iselmatainia, midway between the cities of Kudfufu and Sudbury.  In the Iselmatainian religion of Ultraparifanoxeyitism, it is believed that the Gleaken Moth was sent to earth by their god and creator, Alesh McTibbet, to reveal the secrets of Toorookal.  Along with the Gleaken Moth were found the sacred tablets which make up the Salvey, the Great Book of Ultraparifanoxeyitism.  The archeological site, which is now considered the most sacred shire in all of Iselmatainia, dates from approximately 10,000 BCE (before common era).  In fact, the Iselmatainian calendar dates from the time it is believed that the Gleaken Moth arrived on Iselmatainia.  The year 2000 of the Christian Era corresponds with the year 12,158 AN (After Nothing).

The blue on the Moth is said to represent the sea that surrounds the island.  Or perhaps it represents the blue of the little flowers that bud on the pepperoni trees in the spring.  Or maybe it represents the sky – kind of working on the heaven imagery.  The yellow dots on each of the upper wings are said to represent the sun and the moon, which is just as good as any other explanation that anybody can come up with.  The large yellow streak is said to represent the Moth’s descent to earth, or perhaps its ascent back to Toorookal.  The red more than likely represents the blood that has been shed fighting for the island, or rather, the blood that probably would be shed if anybody actually wanted to fight for the island.  Quite frankly, no one has a clue what the purple stripe stands for.

The writing on the flag is the ancient language and alphabet of Iselmatainia.  The modern language of Iselmatainia has abandoned the ancient alphabet and uses a more western one.  The word at the top is “Islematainia,” and the words below are “Zahgooh Newawaynot,” which translates to “Go Away,” which is the Islematainian National Motto.  The Islematainian language is only used on official government documents and by older Iselmatainians and scholars who are generally viewed as smart alecks by the other islanders.
